What a repair costs

The fixed prices above each include the call-out, the labour and the part — no extras on the day. They cover the replacements we are called out for most often.

For anything not on that list, the capped price is from $140 + GST for the call-out and labour. We do not charge by the minute. Parts are extra and charged at the manufacturer’s recommended price, and we tell you what a part costs before we fit it.

What usually goes wrong

The oven is not heating, or not heating evenly. Most often a failed element or a thermostat that has drifted out of calibration. An oven that runs cold by 30 or 40 degrees will still turn on, so people often live with it for months before calling.

The fan-forced element has gone. The oven still works on conventional settings, so the symptom is usually browning on top and raw underneath, rather than no heat at all.

The grill will not come on. Usually the grill element itself or the selector switch.

Hotplates dead on one side. On a coil cooktop that is normally the element or its switch. On a ceramic cooktop it is the radiant element underneath the glass, which is a different part and a different price.

A gas burner will not light, or lights and goes out. A blocked burner port, a worn ignition electrode, or a flame failure device that is no longer holding the gas valve open. The last one is a safety device doing its job, so it should not be bypassed.

The rangehood has stopped extracting. Motor, switch, or in a lot of cases filters that have never been cleaned.

The dishwasher will not drain. Usually the pump or a blockage in the filter or the outlet hose.

Shattered oven glass

If your oven door glass has shattered and the manufacturer no longer supplies a replacement — which happens constantly on older appliances — call us. We can manufacture one for you. It is one of the more common reasons an oven that is otherwise perfectly good gets thrown out.

When a repair is not worth it

Sometimes it is not. If the cost of the parts approaches what the appliance is worth, we will say so rather than take the job. If you decide to replace it instead, we also do installation at a fixed price.

Booking a repair

Book online and choose your own time. Enter the property postcode — see areas we service — and the calendar shows the next available appointments, in one of two arrival windows, 7:30am to 11:30am or 11:30am to 3:30pm. You get a confirmation email with a link to reschedule or cancel up to four hours beforehand.

Property managers and strata: use the agency path on the booking form so we capture the work order number and the tenant’s contact details. See real estate and strata.

It helps to have the brand and model number ready. On most ovens it is on a plate inside the door frame; on a cooktop it is usually underneath.
